We are in Exchange 2010 environment, during modification of permissions on one of the groups we were getting below error:
“Permissions for Distribution Group Are Not in the Standard Format, Use the application that was previously used to edit permissions”
To resolve the issue we have to use exchange 2003 exchange console, here are the articles that we referred.

This happened because there was a feature in previous versions of exchange that you can use to hide memberships, We used the exchange 2003 console & ran exchange task to un-hide the membership to resolve this issue.
